Old Oak Cottages are very easily accessible - we are well situated for all major road networks - yet not too near as to spoil the wonderful surrounding countryside and views.
The main A1(M) and A19 are easily accessible - both about a 10 minute drive away. |

There are some wonderful golf courses not too far from Old Oak Cottages. There popular courses are Thrisk, Northallerton, and Ampleforth
Horseracing is very popular in Yorkshire! There are plenty of courses to choose from, including Thirsk, Wetherby, York, and Ripon.
Boltby Pony Trekking is a favourite, located near Thirsk.
We are extremely fortunate to have many lovely scenic walks around us, some of which can be accessed directly form Old Oak Cottages without having to take the car. For other ideas of walks in the area please visit Walking in Yorkshire and Visit Thirsk.
There are many cycle routes in the area, with some direct from our cottages. Also, cycle hire is available at Sutton Bank Visitor Centre with a 3 mile family cycle route. New routes have been added since 2014. For more information call 01845 597759. Also very popular is Danby Forest, with tracks suitable for all ages.
At Old Oak Cottages we are dog friendly in four of our properties - Fox, Owl, Mouse and Wren. (We keep ALL the other cottages pet free in case of guest allergies).
Our farm location is perfect for walking your dog, direct from the cottage doorstep, traffic free (apart from the odd tractor!) we mow paths through our wooded areas and around the wildlife pond - dogs adore this great adventure!
We charge a small fee of £30 per stay to bring a dog. If you have more than one dog, please discuss this with us either by telephone or email, as it may be possible to bring 2 dogs if they are on the small side.
If you wish, we can provide Dog Bowls, Dog Treats, Food Mats, Dog Poop Bags, Dog Towels and Throws for the furniture. These need to be requested at the time of booking.
There is a separate bin for doggy poop bags, and an outside tap for muddy paws!
We can offer help with pubs/restaurants/coffee shops that are dog friendly and we are fortunate to have a very good relationship with our local Veterinary Surgeons, (Skeldale Vets, aka The Yorkshire Vet, as seen on TV!!) so if a problem should occur whilst staying at Old Oak, help and advice is not far away.
